About the Programme

Marian Award for Technology Excellence (MATE) is an initiative instituted in 2015 by Marian Engineering College, Trivandrum, Kerala, in connection with the Episcopal Silver Jubilee Year of Metropolitan Archbishop of Latin Archdiocese of Trivandrum, Most Rev. Dr. M. Soosa Pakiam, and our Patron. It is a celebration of the spirit of student innovations in the fields of engineering, technology, science, medicine, health, management etc that are extremely parsimonious solutions for the betterment of marginalized sectors of society.

We are happy to invite nominations by current students for the Marian Award for Technology Excellence 2016 for

  • New and creative academic/industrial projects
  • Innovative, sustainable and cost-effective technologies
  • Research initiatives and alternate approaches

MARIAN ENGINEERING COLLEGE, established in 2001, is one of the premier institutes for engineering education in Kerala. Situated in the neighborhood of VSSC-ISRO, Technopark, KINFRA Apparel Park, Bharath Petroleum Plant etc., MEC enjoys a top ranking position in curricular, co-extra-curricular and placement activities among self-financing engineering colleges. MEC is home for the Marian Research & Development Centre (MRDC) inaugurated by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in 2012; Technological Business and Incubation Centre (TBIC) affiliated to Technopark, Trivandrum, and Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC) and is an IBM Centre of Excellence.

The Award

Project proposal nominations are invited from the young innovators on the areas of Science, Engineering, Technology, Health and Management. Proposal will be examined and evaluated in two stages. In the first stage, Synopsis of the Proposal will be evaluated by the Reviewers and based on the evaluation; shortlisted proposals will be invited to submit a detailed proposal. An Expert Committee will review the shortlisted proposals in second stage and select the finalists.

The finalists will have to demonstrate and present their innovative project before the Judging Committee, and the best Innovation among them will be selected as the winner of the prestigious Marian Award for Technology Excellence 2016. The Award comprise a cash prize of ' 1,00,000/-' a certificate and memento.

Competition

Nominations from all college going students of Science, Engineering, Technology, Health and Management domains are invited for the award. The award is :

  • For innovative, unique, sustainable and cost effective technologies
  • For generating new ideas and approaches to realize products and/or develop techniques to mitigate problems in socially relevant areas
  • For promoting interaction between academia, industry and research laboratories
  • For inventions aiming sustained betterment of the lives of marginalized sections.

Nomination for the award is to be submitted online. In the first stage, submit only the Synopsis of the project. The proposed ideas should be truly novel, original and should positively and definitely be an improvement on the subject. The proposal shall be highly innovative and should have features such as affordability, applicability and adaptability.

The projects so submitted will be screened for the second stage. Nominees of such screened proposals should submit a detailed proposal in the prescribed format on the project plan, methodology, time frame for realization and an estimate of the project. Out of these, nominees of shortlisted entries will then be informed and will get the opportunity to present / demonstrate the work for evaluation before a judging committee for the award.
